Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1.  What is the difference between (WL) working line shepherd (GSD) or (BSD) Belgian Shepherds (Malinois), and (SL) show line West German Shepherds?

If your'e looking for a dog to do protection work, detection work, search & rescue, or any serious type of Police Work or Military work, the WL and BSD are the most sought-out dog.  They make better work type dogs and usually will work much longer at their task.  They usually are the best for this type of work.  Although, if you're looking for a pet only and snuggle-buddy or just want to have an easy-going less energetic dog that requires less exercise and has drives that are easy to control, the SL GSD would work best for you.  Also, if you are looking to show your Shepherd the show line has many clubs and venues to do this in the USA and Canada.

2.  How do I get started if I want to import a dog from your team?

It's quite simple: just click here to fill out our questionnaire in depth and we will walk you through the steps for importing a puppy or adult or trained K-9. The process takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks (depending on what type of dog you are looking for), from time of your deposit to arrangement of flight to your destination. Some airports require a broker to clear your dog through customs; this is a small payment made to an airport broker to do all the customs work and paperwork to clear your dog for entry into the USA or Canada.

3.  What is the difference between dogs from Europe and North America?

Because of the stringent rules in place in Europe, most countries regulate breeding of pure-bred dogs. In turn, this makes for dogs with better health and proven parents. This sometimes must be approved by a breed warden before you can breed your dogs. Therefore, countries such as Slovakia, Germany, and the Czech Republic have a higher concentration of superior genetics, which lessens your chances of hip and elbow problems that are much higher here in North America. The Police and Military have been doing this for over 50 years and still to this day practice this through importing.  However, many top breeders in the USA are bringing better dogs to North America and are now also instilling the high standards to some degree that we see In Europe.

The working dog is a dog with agility, drives, and knowledge that a handler uses to train to the particular job. The dogs that are used consistently in a special task seem to carry the bloodlines that make them better at their tasks. Hence, we import for the task in which these dogs have been bred for most of the time, for over 100 years.

4.  What does it mean if a dog has a Title or bred survey, and why does an animal cost more when he or she has these certificates?

These Titles and Certificates take months and years of training and certify that the animal is of a good standard. These tests prove that you have a well-rounded and intelligent animal that is of correct character and temperament of the breed.

Dogs with these titles will most of the time cost thousands more because of the time and training put into the K-9. We often have clients who buy puppies and have us send them to the client after the puppy is titled. This takes usually a year+, so the Dog would come after being 1 year old and prior to 2 years of age, depending on the program the client desires.

5.  What does it cost to import a Dog to North America?

The cost of getting your dog/puppy to the airport (freight) and the cost of the airline getting your dog safely flown to an International Airport varies by weight and size of your dog, but puppies are much less. Most of our clients spend $950-$1800 USD for freight/shipping and crate, but this is only an estimate. Some countries have different rules and regulations, therefore we price each import on a individual basis.

The cost of puppies and dogs also varies by Titles the parent might have and how sought after the pedigree is. Also, adult dogs vary depending upon their training but we usually see clients spend on their adult dogs $3,500 - $18,000 USD all depending on the individual dog and its owner’s sale price. Puppies start at $1,000 USD to $3,500 USD depending on the breeding. If the puppy is older and is started in basic training, it is customary to see those training fees added to the cost of the young dog, but not always.

6.  How long have you and your team been importing from Europe and why should I think about using your service versus another, or doing it myself?

This is a great question and we believe that by using Euro-American K9 services & our Professional Network, we can choose an excellent puppy/dog for you.   We know our clients build our business by word of mouth and by what we sell them, so we strive to find and locate and train some of the best K-9 prospects that we can find in Europe. Therefore, our clients get a better selection and many times better price, because we work with these kennels or associates multiple times per year. We know these dogs from experience and many times these are repeat breeding of dogs that we own ourselves or similar bloodlines, and many times line bred on the greatest dogs to come from Europe.

We also have Exclusive Guarantees, which are much different than most European breeders or if buying direct. We guarantee health for 6 months and we guarantee hips and elbows for **5 years on all purchases that go through Euro-American K9. You also buy with confidence and trust, so you will not be scammed like many have been from North America in the past. We back each sale with a contract and we have team members throughout Europe and North America. Your North-American Coordinators Vilma & Noel Certain will make sure every detail is explained to you and that you're confident prior to making any deposits. Many times the dogs we sell are dogs hand-selected from litters by our team 2-4 years previously, then Trained & Titled by our professionals in Europe and North America, and later sold by Euro-American K9.

7.  How long will it take to get my dog's Export Pedigree?

The times vary and this is a very common question. We guarantee that you will get with the dog you purchase a Pet Passport with all health and vaccinations up-to-date. Later on, usually 2-7 months there will come from the country of origin an official pedigree in your name. We will give you copies of the original pedigree with your purchase, but the official transfer and Titles that your dog has received will come from the governing K-9 Association from which your dog came. We will work on your behalf to obtain the Export pedigree faster on your behalf, always at no charge to our clients.

8.  What is the cost of, and time-frame of, titling my dog in Europe?

The average cost per Title is $ 2,000 USD, this covers food/board/exercise/transport to and from training and picking up your dog at an International Airport. The time-frame really depends on the dog, their knowledge and drives, & what he/she currently knows. The average Time is 8-14 months from the 1st titles, although we have dogs go from a Bh to IPO 3 in as Little as 18 months.

Also, dogs must be at least 1 year old before they go for their Titles. Although, we highly suggest starting your puppy early (8-10 weeks), and no later than 7 Months. She/he should be trained by imprinting 1st, and then followed by a full training Program. We find that puppies that start their training from 7 weeks to 10 weeks of age excel in Titling and usually will title from ZVV1-ZVV3 / SVVI-SVV3/ Bh-1P0-IPO3 prior to the age of 28 months.

The average Cost to title a dog from AD, BH to IPOI, IPO2, IPO3 is $6,000 USD inclusive of food/board/Vet check/ and Exercise 6 days a week with monthly updates, and Our North American Coordinators checking and visiting your dog twice per year in country of training. Things Such as DNA, X-Ray ED/HD and Breed/Survey and Korong are additional cost and will be discounted for all K-9 in our Program.

9.  Do you Import other types of dogs?

Yes, we can Import almost any type of dog for you and give you similar guarantees such as Labradors, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Czech wolf dogs & any other breed that is in Europe. Although, we specialize and have extensive knowledge of Shepherds. In particular GSD German Shepherd Dogs/ BSD Belgian Shepherd Dogs/ (SL) West-German Shepherds.

10.  Do you breed German Shepherds also in the USA?

Yes, we occasionally have a litter here in the USA, of Working Line and Show Line German Shepherds, 1-2 litters every other year of our own dogs (that can be also seen on our website). If you want a superior puppy without the importing costs, this is a great option.  We do have a few reputable breeders that we also would recommend if you cannot wait for our litters. We only recommend breeders that have the highest quality dogs and standards here in the USA. For several that we would highly recommend, we have imported their dogs for them, or we have purchased from them ourselves in the past.
